Oscar Film Unit

Original OFU films on the web

The following films are taken from the Oscar Film Unit Gold Anthology DVD, which is available free of charge to ex-members of OFU.

Kidnap!

OFU's "lost" film. We found this footage, in pieces, while cataloguing OFU's archive of films. We have no idea who shot it, or what it's about. We've guessed how it was intended to be edited together... but we've no idea if we're right.

Rag '69

Just after the university moved from Battersea to Guildford, OFU shot this documentary which features students jumping in the River Wey in January, selling themselves for charity and watching Deep Purple perform live at the Civic Hall.

Under Construction

Shots of the Stag Hill campus in its infancy.

The Famous OFU Sex Film

Somehow, this film became a legendary "rite-of-passage" in OFU's latter film exhibition days; you weren't a "real" projectionist until you'd done three things: hurt yourself on the rewind table; damaged the "church film"; and sat through the Sex Film in stony silence. Made by OFU in conjunction with Charities' Own Week (who have a nice bit of product placement early in the film), this is notable for being the world's least erotic sex movie.

Rag '67

From its opening certification by the British Board Of Sanitary Inspectors onwards, this manages to be both documentary of the final days of the university in Battersea and humorous testament to the ingenuity, inventiveness and - let's face it - spectacularly short skirts of London students in the Swinging Sixties. Unquestionably a fascinating time capsule.
